Chatto Creek

& getting there
******   page 1 of 3   ********

Friday – off to Chatto Creek and to see Amanda, her dog Badger, Parsley the pig, the horses, the farm et al!!  How exciting.  First we stop for coffee in Geraldine – a nice town with huge trees that was hosting an antique car day!!  Many goodies from Jen’s carefully packed picnic basket while we sat under the enormous trees!!   Veering West (I think?) we travel through beautiful country but the weather begins to turn wild and windy.

About to take off

Amanda's place
A stop at the Church of the Good Shepard near Twizel where the windds almost blew us into the Lake.  Beautiful – but Wow!!  We found cover from the wind in a picnic area and finished lunch just before the rains start!!  Off for Chatto Creek!!  But first to Alexandria, and the Central Vets Clinic to meet Amanda and Anna – handling a crisis of a hypothermic dog.  Go shopping for dinner – getting many goodies.  Land at Chatto Creek weather improved and everyone eager to be there!!  Meet all the dogs, Parsley and then entire group; Petra, Anna, Duncan,  Bevan (Petra’s boyfriend).  Another great BBQ but we are all fading quickly from the long day’s ride, jet lag etc!!  Phil and I die again – this time in Amanda’s bedroom.

Sunday – Another action packed day.  First with lunch with Duncan’s parents Judy and Alistair in a delightful out-door patio-garden.  Corn fritters and French toast were the all-time favorites!! Plus “short” or “long” coffee!! A learning experience for me!!  Then we were whisked off for a bike ride on the Otago Rail Track!!  Remarkable and fantastic bridges, tunnels and views!!  Jo had to get her bike riding skills renewed!!  Then off for the horse races in Roxbrough where Amanda was the “Vet-in-Charge” and Judy had her favorites racing horse to bet on (#15).  The weather was still warm/hot and the sun was strong!!  After enjoying a hot-dog NZ style, we trekked home to feed Parsley – again  --and ourselves, yes again.  Eating was a special event for each day!!
